The lawyer for a British grandfather trapped in the Ukraine for a year after his name was put on an Interpol database has called for reform of the red notice system.

Robert Urwin, a shipping company manager, was visiting Ukraine in November when he was arrested at the airport over a bounced cheque he was alleged to have written in Dubai in 2006. He was detained as a result of a red notice — issued by Interpol to help member states to locate and arrest people wanted in relation to criminal matters — at the request of HSBC bank in Dubai.

Radha Stirling represented Robert Urwin.
